The Streets of Manila from Inside a Car – Part 2

with 180 comments

A continuation of my previous post about taking pictures of the street from inside a car. I managed to find some more pictures that I liked and decided to show them off here in the blog. Enjoy!

“A classic car stuck in traffic (well, us too…) on the Southern Luzon Expressway – I wonder if it had air-conditioning….”

“Metro-aide – Public street cleaners (Must be a really tough job in the hot and humid Philippine weather)”

“The Doorman”

“OK, he was CLEARLY blocking the driveway!”

“Umm…. guys, I think we have found Superman’s secret hideout!!!”

“I can’t imagine this to be a very comfortable position to sleep in…”

“Tricycles” “Pedicabs”

“Early morning traffic (although this was still pretty tame)”

“Polluter – Who knew that the little motorcycle engine could spew so much smoke!? He needs to get that checked out!”

  17. nice pics. amazing colors and texture. I loved the superman pic. Btw, the pic you tagged as sticycles are actually called ‘pedicab’ as they are pedal bikesss attached to a cab. tricycles are motorbikes welded into a cab…

    March 12, 2012 at 2:26 pm

    • Thanks! I didn’t know that, I have always called them tricycles ever since I was a kid lol.

Taking pictures is more fun in the Philippines.

Riding in 3 wheel transpo as in pedicab, tricycle, trike and the like is lot more fun in the Philippines.

So come on, witness the Democracy at work, see for your self the Bruhaha of empeachment as it is still MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES!

  37. Yes! You gave us the answer to where Superman is hiding now! Who knows, maybe you could uncover the Batcave? Lol. I enjoyed your pictures. I live here in the Philippines but it’s nice to see someone else look at it with a pair of an artist’s eyes.

  41. just to correct, that “Tricycle” is not really called tricycle…. its called PEDICAB…”pedi” for feet because your feet will do the work, and “cab” is the transpo itself… Tricycles are operated by machine, pedicabs are by feet… food for the mind… 😉 but great work btw…kudos!;)

    March 12, 2012 at 8:20 pm

    • Corrected the “Tricycles” caption 🙂

      March 12, 2012 at 8:24 pm

But I think these photos serve a reminder that even if sometimes life is hard, we should find time to humor ourselves. Thanks for the different perspective!

  104. GREAT photos!

  105. In your second to last photo, curious about the US flag…did you pass by the Cultural Centre on Manila Bay?

    March 13, 2012 at 3:17 pm

    • I had to look around for the US flag that you mentioned, I didn’t really notice it when I took the picture. I took this around where I live (Tondo, Manila). I do have pictures around the CCP area but they did not make the post.

      March 13, 2012 at 5:07 pm

  106. These remind me of my own photos of Manila that I took back in 1986. It was right after Benino Aquino had been assassinated and on the verge of new free elections. Interesting time in an interesting place.

  133. Yes that early morning traffic you shot IS tame! 🙂 Being stuck at EDSA at 9 in the morning is worse.

I loved the photos and captions! You captured our city’s people being themselves really well. 🙂
